Recipe for Methi Matar Malai

Today, I’m going to make Methi Matar Malai. This dish is very easy to make and incredibly tasty. Let’s see how to prepare it.

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams of fenugreek (methi) leaves, cleaned and finely chopped
  • 250 grams of green peas (matar)
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2-3 cashew nuts, chopped
  • 1 onion, roughly chopped
  • 1 tomato, roughly chopped
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 inch piece of ginger, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 cup cream (malai)

Instructions:

  1. Boil the Peas:
    • Take a pot of water and bring it to a boil.
    • Add the green peas and cook until they are tender.
    • Once cooked, drain the peas and transfer them to a bowl of cold water to stop the cooking process.
  2. Prepare the Base:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of ghee in a pan.
    • Add the chopped cashew nuts and sauté until golden brown.
    • Add the roughly chopped onion, tomato, garlic, and ginger.
    • Sauté the mixture on medium heat until the onions and tomatoes soften.
    • Let the mixture cool slightly, then blend it into a fine paste.
  3. Cook the Fenugreek:
    • In the same pan, add 1 tablespoon of oil and heat it.
    • Add the finely chopped fenugreek leaves and sauté for about 2-3 minutes until they wilt.
  4. Add the Paste and Spices:
    • Add the prepared onion-tomato-cashew paste to the pan with the fenugreek leaves.
    • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, Kashmiri red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt.
    • Mix everything well and cook on low flame for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the Cream:
    • Add 1/2 cup of cream to the pan and mix well.
    • Cook the mixture on low flame for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Combine and Serve:
    • Add the boiled peas to the pan and mix well.
    • Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is well combined and heated through.
    • Transfer the Methi Matar Malai to a serving bowl or plate.
