The issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators in Jharkhand has heated up from Parliament to the streets. Congress MLA Shilpi Neha Tirkey’s comparison of Bangladeshi infiltrators to the people of Bihar has stirred political tension in both Bihar and Jharkhand. Here is the report from our correspondent Somesh Patel in Ranchi:
The issue of Bangladeshi infiltration in Jharkhand has escalated from the state assembly to Parliament. In protest against Bangladeshi infiltration, the BJP staged a significant demonstration in the assembly premises. The BJP has accused the Hemant Soren government of sheltering Bangladeshi infiltrators and warned that any tampering with the existence and identity of the tribals will not be tolerated.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo questioned Congress MLA Shilpi Neha Tirkey’s statement, asking if Congress also considers Bangladeshi infiltrators and the people of Bihar as the same. He stated that this comment insults the people of Bihar and that both Rahul Gandhi and Rajesh Thakur should clarify their stance on this issue.
Meanwhile, the BJP has attacked the Hemant Soren government over the brutal treatment of students at the Tribal Welfare Boys’ Hostel in Pakur district. The BJP claims that the government is taking such steps to divert attention from the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration.
The BJP has been raising the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration and the decreasing tribal population in Santhal for a long time. The BJP asserts that the demographics are changing under the protection of JMM and Congress, and this will not be tolerated.
On this issue, the BJP is quite aggressive while the controversial statement of the Congress MLA has further intensified Jharkhand’s politics.
